This is another one of those “have the photo, but don’t have the post” type deals, and this one is about what makes me unfollow blogs. Don’t get me wrong, I love the blogging world and won’t unfollow every blog, but there are some things that makes me click the unfollow button on Bloglovin, or to a lesser extent, not follow your blog after reading.
Not updating regularly
My rule of thumb is that if someone hasn’t updated their blog in 30 days straight, I unfollow. This is because I’d rather be reading active blogs than having an inactive blog collecting dust in my following list.
There’s nothing wrong with content change, but if your content changes to something I have no interest with, then I will unfollow. I don’t mind if there’s a bit of everything (even though I’m not a parent, I will read posts about parenting if it’s from a blog that writes about what I’m interested in), but constantly writing about the same thing will let me know that you’ve changed directions and it’s time for me to move on.
Generally, I don’t like reading posts that don’t have photos (the only exception is if something serious has happened to the blogger, such as a death or a horrific event) because I find that blog posts with no photos is just a gigantic wall of text that I can’t even focus on for more than 30 seconds at a time.
Your blog no longer brings value to my life
If I feel like reading your blog is more of a chore instead of bringing happiness, I’ll unfollow. I don’t want blog reading to feel like a job.
Your collaboration posts have nothing to do with your blog’s niche/aesthetic
For a fashion blog, seeing something about cars is going to be jarring. For a pink, girly blog, seeing something about football and boyish stuff is also going to be jarring. If someone is doing collaborative posts, but the collaboration seems way too odd to be on that blog, that’s when I unfollow. It’s nice to do collabs, don’t get me wrong, but seeing something that doesn’t match the blog’s theme or niche is very off-putting.
